#1: Dirk’s Final Home Game

If I could re-live one moment in Dallas Mavericks history, the farewell game for Dirk Nowitzki from the American Airlines Center would be pretty high up on the list. I was able to witness the NBA championship for the Mavs in 2011, I went to the parade in celebration and I even got to see Dirk take home the big MVP award in 2007, but very few moments in my life stick out like the goodbye between the Mavs fans and their hero, Dirk.

I was lucky enough to be present for this incredible game that sent Dirk Nowitzki off in the correct way. From the pre-game videos about all Dirk has done to strengthen the team, the community and the city of Dallas as a whole, to the impact and legacy Dirk left on the game that was highlighted in the ceremony after the game, Dirk impacted every single person in the crowd.

And yet, we quickly forget just how great of an actual game Dirk played that night. Sure, it may not have been vintage Dirk, but 30 points is 30 points and it was the type of game that Dirk deserved to be sent off on. No one could have predicted this outcome, but Dirk knew he had to deliver one more time for the city that has cherished him for over two decades.

With all the festivities and tears that this game brought Mavs fans, it was the obvious choice for the #1 ranking in the top moments of the 2018-19 season. For anyone who may have been present for this game, you know exactly what I mean.
