Secondary Playmaking
Yes, Luka Doncic does need the ball in his hands. Yes, Kristaps Porzingis can create his own shot. And, yes, the Dallas Mavericks need more guys who can do it too.
In today’s NBA, offense wins championships. The top 5 teams in offensive rating last year were Golden State, Houston, Portland, Milwaukee, and Toronto. All four of the conference finals teams and a team that pushed the Warriors to seven games in 2018. The next 5 were Denver, San Antonio, Philly, Los Angeles (Clippers), and Boston.
As you can see, teams need to be able to score to win. Another common theme of those teams, maybe the ten best in the league last season, is they all have multiple guys who need the ball in their hands.
Dallas may have their Batman and Robin but they’re gonna need at least one more player who can create scoring opportunities for himself and others.
