Luguentz Dort

One of the most interesting names in the draft class but also a very dynamic player that is finally starting to get recognized, Luguentz Dort has serious game and he is going to prove that at the next level. Dort was the best player on an average Arizona State team this year that got bounced by the University at Buffalo in the first round of March Madness.

Dort was able to average 16.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his one year at ASU. He was ranked 76th in the 2018 freshman class across the country, but he has moved his way up after a good year under Bobby Hurley.

The best part about Dort’s game and the part the Mavs would be most excited to get is his wing defense. He is a hard nosed defender who works his butt off with his aggressiveness and tenacity throughout the game. In the mock draft I posted just a few days ago, I compared Dort to Lance Stephenson because of his tough defense and readiness for competition.

Offensively, Dort needs to work on his shot, especially his outside shot. He shot a decent 30.7% from three this season, but with him taking an average of 5 threes per game, you would prefer to see the percentage closer to 35-40% based on that level of confidence.

Dort is going to have to show off his defensive prowess at the combine this weekend. If he can get his shot to drop, it would certainly help him a lot, but the fact is that he is being looked at as a defensive wing that can be a stopper for whichever team picks him. Dallas could be that team and he would fit the role that they are definitely hoping to fill this summer.
