NBA Draft Lottery: Dallas Mavericks hoping Cynt Marshall can change lotto luck
By Kohl Rast
The Dallas Mavericks have been sending Michael Finley to the NBA Draft Lottery over the last few years and he has served the team well. Hoping for a change in luck, however, the team has decided to send team CEO, Cynt Marshall.
It is high time the Dallas Mavericks luck in the NBA Draft Lottery changes. Since the draft lottery first began in 1985, the Dallas Mavericks have never gotten the first overall pick, despite having the best odds on a couple different occasions. The only number one overall pick Dallas has ever had came in 1981, the year after the franchise began.
Over the past few years, the Mavs have been sending Vice President of Basketball Operations, Michael Finley, as the Mavs representative for the lottery. Although this role does not actually mean anything in terms of action, it is fun to see which team sends as their “face” for the big night.
Interestingly enough, in almost 35 years of NBA Draft Lottery, Dallas has never moved up in the draft thanks to the lottery. They have moved back and they have stayed consistent with their odds, but they’ve never moved forward. That is some pretty amazing odds considering the number of times Dallas was in the lottery from the 80’s, 90’s and now.
With hopes of changing the poor hand the Mavericks have been dealt over and over, the team has decided to switch up their recent approach and will be sending CEO, Cynthia Marshall to represent the team for the night. Cynt has become a Mavs fan favorite since Mark Cuban hired her as she has taken so many strides to improve the culture in the Mavericks organization.
Marshall has not just become an icon in Dallas, she represents many things that the NBA continues to work towards, including diversity, safety and comfort in the workplace for all employees and a passion for the game that cannot be overstated.
With a chance to be the representative of the team trying to acquire possibly the best players drafted in the past two years along with some young stars around them, you can bet that Cynt Marshall is excited about the prospect of a first overall pick for the Mavs tonight. Hopefully Adam Silver is inspired by this when he is fixing the lottery tonight.
The NBA Draft Lottery will be airing tonight at 7:30 central time on ESPN. The Dallas Mavericks will have a 6% chance at getting the first overall pick with a 26% chance of keeping their first round pick this year.
