Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. G/F. Talen Horton-Tucker. Iowa State. 25. 34

The Iowa State Cyclones have been one of the most interesting teams in the NCAA over the past few years, going from a team that most people didn’t know much about to a contender in the Big 12. Talen Horton-Tucker played an important part for the team’s success during the regular season this year.

The Portland Trail Blazers have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in a long time and they look really good this year. They will have some serious questions to answer this offseason, but for now they can look to just fill some important roles on the team for next year, regardless of how the rest of this season goes.

Horton-Tucker would give the Blazers a wing that can be an important role player on both ends of the court. Although he is only 6’4″, Horton-Tucker has a wingspan over seven feet. This gives him the length to not only be a good defender, but potentially an elite defender. Even though he did not score a ton this year, Horton-Tucker shows signs of being an above average scorer at every level.

Horton-Tucker will need to show an improvement on his three-point shooting going forward if he is going to be a solid wing in the NBA. He had a tendency to get stuck with the ball occasionally this season as well, so his playmaking and decision making could see some improvement going forward as well.

Player Comparison: P.J. Tucker

P.J. Tucker is a great all around player that thrives on the defensive end of the court but has found his rhythm on offense at each level. His three-point shooting has become an important part of his game, something that Horton-Tucker will also be hoping for.
