Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic is taking the league by storm, but he is not a fan of the longer timeouts in the NBA.

The Dallas Mavericks drafted a gem in Luka Doncic. The 19-year-old is only 35 games into his NBA career but continues to impress fans and front office personnel alike. Doncic is averaging 32.2 minutes per game and producing 19.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

That line is unheard of for a teenager. Seven NBA players are averaging at least 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game this season. The list includes six All-Stars (LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russell Westbrook, Victor Oladipo, and Blake Griffin) and Doncic. That only further adds to the All-Star case for Luka as the seventh man rounding out the group.

Playing professional basketball is not new to Doncic. He left his home in Slovenia at 13 to join Real Madrid in Spain. Luka was playing for their first team by age 15 and became their star player for his final two seasons in Madrid. The word prodigy is a fitting description for Doncic.

Still making a transition

Luka Doncic may have a plethora of professional basketball experience, but he is still making a massive change this season. Doncic is coming to a new country that speaks a non-native language to him in addition to playing in the best league in the world. It has not seemed to impact Wonder Boy, though.

Not a fan of NBA timeouts

Luka did find a vast difference between his days starring for Real Madrid and playing for the Dallas Mavericks. Let him explain in the following Tweet courtesy of Rosalyn Gold-Onwude.

The commercial breaks in the NBA make the timeouts much longer and have forced Doncic into a few uncomfortable spots. The rookie is adapting on the court without issue, but it is always interesting to hear what players take notice of during the games. Expect Luka to continue is torrid pace despite the addition timeout time.

Final thoughts

Dallas Mavericks rookie standout Luka Doncic is not a fan of the lengthy NBA timeouts. It does not appear to be impacting his game, though.

Fans should get out and vote for Luka for the All-Star game. The rookie more than deserves the honor, but it likely does not happen unless fans get out and select him. They can vote here once each day. Let’s get Doncic in the game.
