14. Ray Spalding

Coach Carlisle has given a lot of praise to the youngster from Louisville, and after watching my fair share of highlights, I see what Carlisle sees. That is the reason that the Mavs felt confident signing the 56th pick to a four-year deal. And that is why Ray Spalding figures to get some time on the court this year.

Spalding is going to be a nice fit at the 3 and 5 this year coming off the bench. At 6’10”, Spalding is  a big body, but he has also shown some ability from three-point land. As long as his defense looks good, I expect to see Spalding break into Carlisle’s rotation at least every once and awhile this year.

Spalding should have a shot at moving up the list, but at this point still, we are seeing a lot of rookies and young players with potential on the Mavs roster. Spalding and Ryan Broekhoff are pretty interchangeable at this point because we aren’t completely sure what they can do. We will have a better idea soon.

13. Ryan Broekhoff

Perhaps the quietest signing of the summer for the Dallas Mavericks, Ryan Broekhoff is a name that everyone will know before too long. At one point considered one of the top three-point shooters not yet in the NBA, Broekhoff brings that sharpshooting expertise that the Mavs thrive off of.

After losing Doug McDermott, Seth Curry and Yogi Ferrell in the offseason, many people worried about how the Mavs would keep up their reputation as a very good three-point shooting team. The additions of Luka Doncic, Daryl Macon and Broekhoff all make me feel much better about the deep ball for Dallas this year.

Broekhoff was a very successful shooter overseas. Now at the age of 28, Broekhoff is in the prime of his career and coming off an impressive season with Lokomotiv Kuban in which he averaged 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. His slash line was very impressive at .549/.506/.886.

I expect Broekhoff to get plenty of time to prove himself with the Mavs this season. Every team needs a three-point specialist and this will be the Mavs man for the job.
