The Dallas Mavericks roster for preseason has been set for some time, but how do the guys compare to each other? Here is a basic ranking of the 20 guys on the Mavs current roster.
Everyone knows who the best players on their respective teams are. It is no secret who the top guys are and who will be stuck at the end of the bench, but the Dallas Mavericks have been a unique team in that aspect over the past few years.
Coach Carlisle has been avidly using more and more unique lineups over the past few years, subbing in guys that don’t normally get any minutes and utilizing the end of the bench possibly better than any other team in the league.
Of course, that could be because the Mavs have been really bad over the last couple years.
For the first time in awhile, the Mavericks are going to be able to compete with most teams that walk into the gym. This competition is going to start with the top players and trickle their way down to the lower guys over time. Plus you just never know when you are going to get your chance to prove yourself to Rick Carlisle.
Even though the Mavs can only carry a finite number of players to the regular season, I thought it would be interesting to look at all 20 guys currently on the roster. When Dallas does have to narrow it down, three players will end up being cut along the way.
Most of us have a pretty good idea on who will be cut by the Mavs to get down to the 15 roster members and the two two-way contracts. Here is how I would rank the 20 players on the roster, based on who they are now and who I think they will be by the end of the season.
