The Dallas Mavericks have announced a new addition to the coaching staff with former Minnesota Timberwolves shooting coach, Peter Patton. Patton played college ball at DePaul University from 1992-1996.

The Dallas Mavericks announced there newest coaching addition to the staff for the upcoming season as Peter Patton. Patton was a former player for DePaul University from 1992-1996. Most recently, Patton was the shooting coach on staff for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but Dallas went out and got him to be the team shooting coach this year.

The Dallas Mavericks already have one of the best shooters in the league with Dirk Nowitzki. There is no secret that he is possibly the most accomplished 7-foot shooter in NBA history and will likely not require the services of the new hire. Not unless Patton wants to pick a fight with Holger Geschwindner.

The new shooting coach will have his hands full this year. If I were a betting man, my guess would be that he will be an important figure in the ongoing attempt to help DeAndre Jordan with his free throw shooting. Whether it is a lost cause or not, I believe the Mavs will continue to make a push in helping him from the charity stripe.

Aside from that, the Mavs have both Luka Doncic and Ryan Broekhoff coming from overseas where the game is a little bit different, the ball is a little bit smaller and the court has some different measurements. Both of these guys are proven shooters, so getting them to the NBA style shouldn’t be too difficult.

Lastly, I hope that the shooting coach will work with Wesley Matthews on getting his consistency back. His numbers aren’t too bad, but he has been much more streaky these last couple years than he was before. That would be a nice thing to work past for the Mavericks.

The Dallas Mavericks built this team to win, not tank. Next

We are excited to have Patton join the staff and are sure that he will add another great element to an excellent coaching staff. Hopefully the results will be seen once the Mavs season starts.
