A quick reminder that the Dallas Mavericks have Luka Doncic

Over a month has past since the Dallas Mavericks made the big trade that landed them Luka Doncic in the draft. Despite this exciting sentence, there hasn’t been a lot of talk about the biggest addition to the team this summer.

Not all of us get to relish in the feeling of victory. The NBA Draft happened on June 21st, which was a Thursday. Many of us, myself included, had to go to work the next day and try to fully understand the importance of the trade and subsequent player the Dallas Mavericks ended up with from the first round of the draft.

Luka Doncic was a top two player in the draft for many people, including analysts, fans and everything in between. When the Sacramento Kings selected Marvin Bagley III with the 2nd pick, almost everyone knew that Luka Doncic would be the next player off the board. There just wasn’t another guy available that could do what he could.

We were all excited. I myself was so shocked and pumped that I sat and stared at the TV for another ten minutes, taking nothing in, but realizing that Dallas just landed a true franchise player that could be one of the best of this generation. I clapped, I yelled, I jumped out of my seat and I started to think about all the ways the Mavs were going to utilize him.

This week, however, I realized that I hadn’t really thought much about this fact in a little while. Despite signing Luka and making him the star of the future for Dallas, he didn’t get a chance to play any summer ball and we haven’t seen him hit the court at all since making it to Dallas. It is tough to really get excited for a guy that you haven’t gotten a chance to see yet.

But, that does not mean we don’t have a reason to be excited. That is why I am writing this to remind everyone that Dallas got possibly the best player in the draft in Luka Doncic. We should be excited everyday leading up to this season because this kid is going to be something special and we all know it. We just have to remember it.
