Jason Terry/Vince Carter

I am a big proponent of bringing home players that have done something great for the team in the past. The Dallas Mavericks are a tight-knit community full of players who have made their mark, but only a handful have made that mark so important that Dallas will always remember them for their better qualities.

Jason ‘Jet’ Terry and Vince Carter are two of those players. In fact, if you asked a Mavs fan what the first memory is of each of those players in Dallas, I bet I could guess the majority of what people would be thinking about.

For Jason Terry, my first thought is game 4, 2nd round of the 2011 NBA playoffs. Dallas was looking to sweep the defending champs and did so in about as convincing fashion as possible, thanks to a monster night by Jet where he scored 32 points and was 9-10 from beyond the arc. It was a game unlike any other.

For Vince Carter, the first memory is an easy one. The corner three that sent Dallas to a game 7 against the eventual champions, San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 playoffs was arguably one of the greatest shots ever taken in a Mavs uniform. That shot will live on long after all of the current Mavs fans have past away.

I hope Dallas looks into the possibility of having one of these guys retire as a Maverick. Even if they don’t get the contract or call it quits early in the year, these guys deserve to call it a career in Dallas, especially Jet. This free agent signing wouldn’t move the needle for any other reason, but like I said, Mavs fans are a tight-knit group,

These are just a couple options the Mavs could pursue as free agency simmers down for the year. It wasn’t quite as eventful as we have grown accustomed to, but this year was different. It was better.
