The Dallas Mavericks acquisition of DeAndre Jordan is a big step in free agency and he will have a great impact on the team right away. What do we need to know as we look forward to what’s next with DJ and the Mavs?

The deal happened and Dallas Mavericks fans are excited, for good reason. Dallas and DeAndre Jordan have agreed to a 1-year/$24.1 million contract that will be signed as soon as the moratorium period ends. This deal has been picked apart in the few hours that it has been known but, for the most part, people are happy with it.

For one thing, the Mavs get a top-notch center for next season. Whether it is for one year or many, that has to be something to be excited about. Dallas is still slow to forgive the terrible atrocity that DJ committed in 2015, but things will change when they see him basically living above the rim.

Aside from that, the Mavs just got A LOT better on the glass. As a historically bad rebounding team, the Mavs have not had a rebounder like Jordan in many years, maybe ever. In fact, Jordan has proven to be able to single-handedly support a team on the glass, something that should really excite Mavs fans.

It is no secret that Dallas got a huge improvement when they verbally agreed with Jordan this morning. His free throw shooting will still be a painful sight for a team used to great free throw percentages, but pretty much everything else will be an improvement from last season.

Here are five things to think about from the DeAndre Jordan situation to the Mavs free agency as a whole. They do not fully encompass all my thoughts, but they do at least highlight the most important things to consider going forward, in my opinion.
