2018 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: The Draft Lottery is Set
By Kohl Rast
MANNY: As the Los Angeles Lakers look to return to its championship contender days, they will add a two-time champion in Donte DiVincenzo out of Villanova. His hot shooting during the 2018 NCAA Tournament earned him All-Tournament honors and grew his draft stock.
The Most Outstanding Player during the Wildcats’ second-straight national title run has garnered a lot of attention from GM’s around the NBA. The Lakers have gone on record saying that every member of its young core is up for grabs via trade.
That announcement, in part, is due to the fact that L.A. is expected to make serious attempts at snagging one or more marquee free agents this upcoming offseason. Bringing in an energetic sharpshooter such as DiVincenzo may catch the eye of LeBron James – one of the Lakers’ free agency targets.
KOHL: Chandler Hutchison has been my pick for draft night steal for awhile now and the fact that this mock draft had him dropping all the way to 26 shows that there is a lot of talent in this class. That said, with Hutchison’s combination of size and skill, he could be the draft steal of the night on June 21st.
Hutchison was a late bloomer in college, not really producing at a high level until his Junior year at Boise State. Despite the time it took, Hutchison quickly became a recognizable threat on both ends of the court. He would fit in nicely as a backup wing behind Robert Covington and Dario Saric.
SEAN: This is probably higher than a lot of people would have Clark going but I’m a fan of his game. The Celtics are in position to take a chance on a player they think can fit a specific area of need. Clark is a good shooter for a power forward and defends well.
Clark is also an excellent rebounder. He could slide into Marcus Morris’ role well and is an NBA-ready player to plug into Brad Stevenson’s rotation. Clark is old for a prospect (23) but I think a team like the Celtics would value his ability to make an impact from day one.
