Dwight Powell and Nerlens Noel for Iman Shumpert and Isaiah Thomas

This trade probably looks crazy on paper, but it should show you just how much IT’s value has dropped in the last few months. No one really cares to take on his expiring contract because his value is so tainted by his awful play right now. Meanwhile, the Mavs understand exactly what it is like to have a player that has lost all value in Nerlens Noel.

This trade makes at least a little bit of sense because the Cavs would acquire Powell who could step in as the part time starter at center until Noel gets healthy. Once healthy, who knows what Noel would actually do with the team, but the prospect of his abilities is enticing at the very least. This trade would only happen if the Cavs had another trade to get a starting point guard and were desperate to make another deal.

One reason the Mavs would not do this deal is that they see the value of Dwight Powell that so many fans tend to overlook. Powell’s contract may look a little outrageous, but when compared to Iman Shumpert’s or many other players in the league, it really is not horribly unreasonable.

One reason the Cavs would not do this deal is if they don’t pull the trigger on a new point guard. Thomas is only a few months removed from an incredible season in which he finished the MVP voting 5th overall, but his terrible defense and his injury that is still worrisome are keeping most teams at bay.
