DALLAS – – The Dallas Mavericks got dominated in almost every area of the stat sheet. But that did not stop the team from forcing overtime.

The Los Angeles Lakers (15-27) dominated the Dallas Mavericks (15-29) in rebounding and field goals scored. However, the Mavericks did not go quietly into the night. In an unlikely turn of events, the Mavericks almost overcame the lopsided stat sheet and had a chance to win in regulation.

Ultimately, reality sided with the stat sheet and the Mavericks fell to the Lakers by a score of 107- 101. The Lakers won the rebounding battle by 20 (59 to 39) and scored 9 more baskets than the Mavericks.

The Mavericks also found themselves on the losing end of the field goal percentage battle. The Mavericks connected on 34-of-90 field goal attempts for an underwhelming shooting percentage of 38 percent.

Free throw and 3-point shooting kept the Mavericks in the game, although they were nowhere near where they need to be. The Mavericks converted on 22 free throws (out of 28), while the visiting Lakers only knocked down 13 free throws (out of 18). Also, the Mavericks connected on 11 3-pointers (out of 43) and the Lakers only hit eight shots outside the 3-point line (out of 26).

Dirk Nowitzki had an unusually bad night in terms of shooting. The usually efficient big German finished with seven points on 1-of-7 shooting. Dennis Smith Jr. led the Mavericks in scoring with 23 points. Several other Mavericks’ players joined him in double figures scoring. Among them were Wesley Matthews and Harrison Barnes who each scored 17 points. Dwight Powell and Yogi Ferrell scored 13 and 11 points respectively.

In a bizarre and cruel twist of fate, Dallas native Julius Randle led the Lakers to victory. Randle scored 23 points and secured 15 rebounds to help the Lakers to extend its win streak to 4-games.It’s also worth noting that the Lakers snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Dallas Mavericks in the win today. Lastly, the win marks the Lakers first win in Dallas since 2013.
