After a big win in Washington, the Dallas Mavericks took two losses against Cleveland and Oklahoma City. Now, they look to rebound against the hated San Antonio Spurs.

In what has been one of the strangest starts to the Mavericks’ season, Dallas currently sits at 2-12 and last place in the Western Conference. However, with only 14 games in the books, it is not the time for Mavericks’ fans to jump ship. Tonight, the Mavericks will square up against their biggest rival, the San Antonio Spurs, led by head coach Gregg Popovich.

In Popovich’s career, the three-time Coach of the Year has faced the Dallas Mavericks 82 times, a complete NBA season worth of matchups. Of those 82 games, Pop won 55 of those games, including 17 of the last 20.

So, while the odds may not be in the Mavericks’ favor, this team has put up a fight against extremely tough opponents in November. Also, this Spurs team has gotten off to an unusual start for the historically great franchise. With Kawhi Leonard still sidelined, the Spurs have started the season at 8-5. But, they still sit in the number three spot in the Western Conference.

As for the Dallas Mavericks, a season stricken by injuries, feuds, and frustration has been painful to watch. As fans try to stay patient, Dallas still is trying to find their groove. Hopefully, a win at home tonight can jump-start the team as they prepare to host four powerhouses in the league: San Antonio, Minnesota, Milwaukee, and Boston.

Dilemma in Dallas

More from Mavs News

With the Nerlens Noel situation still unclear, Dallas has needed serious help from other players on the floor.  Through the first fourteen games of the season, the Mavericks have six players averaging double-digit points per game. Also, ten different players have started for Dallas.

So, as one can tell, head coach Rick Carlisle is still trying to figure out the logistics of this young, relatively inexperienced team on his hands.

But, given the talent of the players, playoff hopes should not be ruled out for this team.
