Jeff Teague

One of the names that is going to come up in a lot of rumors I believe is Jeff Teague. Teague is a 29-year old point guard that has spent his career with the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers. During his time with the Hawks, Teague made himself known as an excellent point guard in the league, especially in 2015 with his lone All-Star appearance.

Teague is coming off another season where his numbers show that he really contributes a lot to the team, yet his fit with both the Hawks and now the Pacers has been in question, despite his production level. Teague could be the odd man out once again with his team.

There is no doubt that people are going to be ready to throw some money at a player like Teague, but at 29, he may be more interested in some stability over making every penny he can. The opportunity is there and his ability cannot really be questioned. He may just need the right system.

The Mavericks may just be that system as they have a lot to offer in the ways of stability. One of the few teams in the league that have had essentially the same front office for more than 5 years, Dallas could give Teague a place where his talents fit into a system instead of scattered parts. The Mavs are still looking for a bit of identity, but Teague’s skill set could go nicely into Carlisle’s system.

Teague would do well in Dallas for the same reason that Dallas would do well with him: stability. This is probably the biggest concern for Teague and his playing future as he has played at a near All-Star level for years but has not fit in. A change in scenery and a multi-year contract will probably be very important to a player like Teague.

This deal would not work I think simply because of money. Even though Teague should be looking for something more than just the number of zeros on his paycheck, it is hard for an NBA player to think like that. Dallas has a lot to offer a player like Teague, but a max contract is not one of those things. If money is not an issue, I think Teague would be pretty high on the Mavs radar.
