David Lee

David Lee did not get a chance to play in Dallas for very long and maybe that is something that should be addressed. Lee has had a great career to this point and can still be an effective bench player, especially on the offensive end. This would be a good time to have an offensive weapon coming off the bench.

Dallas Mavericks

Obviously it would be tough to talk David Lee into leaving a contender like the Spurs to join the Mavs, but I think it would really benefit Dallas if they could. Lee is 34 years old and has a player option for the coming season, but it is unknown if he will take that option or opt out.

The Dallas Mavericks would love to have a player like Lee back because of his ability to score in many different ways and his leadership traits. His defense definitely has its struggles, but the second unit could use his scoring more than anything else.

David Lee would do well to return to Dallas because he would be a relevant player for the team. His teammates would love him and hopefully the Mavs would be willing to pay a little extra for a short term deal. Other than that, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Lee to join the Mavericks down the road.

The two parties would not have a successful pairing if the Spurs want to keep Lee around or if Lee decides to opt in to the final year of his contract. He may be old and an offensive specialist, but he definitely has value on the court.

No matter what the case, their is no guarantee the Mavs will even be looking for a new backup center. However, if they do decide to test the market, there are at least a few decent options out there in free agency.
