Aron Baynes

This one would definitely be a unique name for really any team to pursue this summer, but Aron Baynes is a reasonable player that could help the Mavericks. Baynes is a pretty quiet player in the league, spending his first 5 seasons with the Spurs and the Pistons. He is already 30 years old, but a short-term player at backup center is not a bad thing to consider.

Although his experience is limited, Baynes is a good back to the basket center who can grind in the middle well. Although he is not someone who has great numbers or much of a reputation in the league, he is one of the better centers on the free agent market this summer.

The Dallas Mavericks could use Baynes because he would give the team a different feel at backup center when Noel is off the court. Mejri has almost no presence on the offensive end, so a player like Baynes would give the team a different dynamic to work with, something Carlisle would definitely appreciate.

Baynes would like to come to Dallas because his role would be clear with the team and he would be able to get out of an interesting situation in Detroit. Other teams will probably show interest in Baynes, but his fit with the Mavs seems to make sense with his skill set and the potential opening behind Noel for Dallas.

This deal would not work simply because of mutual disinterest. It’s not necessarily that either party would not fit well together, but rather such a small free agent target may never be on the Mavs radar and may sign with another team before having any idea what offers may be on the table. That is all just speculation though.
