Deron Williams and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms on a one-year contract to bring back the aging point guard in a Mavs uniform.

The Dallas Mavericks are finally making things happen in free agency! Sadly, these things that are happening are bringing players back from before, but at least we know we are looking to put a team on the court this year.

Shortly after news broke that the Mavs and Dwight Powell had come to terms on a deal, it was announced that Deron Williams would be returning to the roster as well. D-Will has become one of the fan favorites here in Dallas since joining the team last year and it is good news to see him coming back, especially considering he is the best remaining free agent point guard on the market.

Deron also helped out the team by agreeing to a fairly team friendly deal at a $10 million price tag for one year (per Marc Stein, ESPN). This would not sound very friendly compared to last year’s salaries, but it is hard to imagine that this was the best deal on the table for Williams.

Between the Powell and Deron deals, the Mavericks spent just shy of $20 million in cap space for the year, leaving plenty of room for still a potential of two max contracts. Names have been floating around for the Dallas Mavericks and potential free agency targets still on the market, but none are sticking yet.

Williams had a solid season with the Dallas Mavericks last year averaging 14 points and nearly 6 assists per game, playing in 65 of the 82 games during the regular season. His injury history is a little bit scary but not enough to let him go too easily.
