The Dallas Mavericks will be picking at the 9th spot possibly in the NBA Lottery. With a loaded draft class, they actually have a chance to draft for an immediate impact.

Maybe fate has finally landed in the Mavericks favor.

The NBA Lottery is tonight.  This year features quite a bit of talent who can definitely make an impact to their respected teams.  Needless to say, the Dallas Mavericks have been looking for an opportunity to bolster their roster immediately.

Now let’s really look at this.

Unfortunately, the Mavs have a slim chance in landing the first pick in the lottery, but it’s not discouraging. Believe it or not, they still have a great chance of landing someone of high caliber.

I can’t stress enough that the Mavericks draft a low risk, high reward guy. Someone you can quickly implement the gameplay to; not a work in progress. Although this class can make an impact, it will take some guys longer than others to adjust to the talent level of the NBA. The Mavericks want to make sure they don’t end up with a guy who has to learn for a few years.

It’s obvious that the Mavericks are looking for a point guard. A guy who can facilitate and run the flow of the offense and be the emotional leader for the squad. Looking at the top 10 picks in the draft, 5 of them are point guards. The addition of a guy like Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, Frank Ntilikina, De’Aaron Fox or Dennis Smith Jr. would bring an immediate impact to the up and coming young team.

Realistically, Fultz, Ball, Josh Jackson, and Jayson Tatum will probably be off the board by the time the Mavericks pick. Malik Monk may be a sleeper pick. Ntilikina and Smith may also still be available. I do say jump on EITHER pick of Fox or Fultz if they just so happen to fall thru the cracks in some strange turn of events.

The Mavericks have solidified the small forward position with Harrison Barnes. They obviously make Nerlens Noel a prime target in free agency, so that locks up your center position. Granite, if any of the top names in PG/SG are not available, I think the Mavs look at Jonathan Isaac or Lauri Markkanen as another big/wing to run the floor.

Drafting one of these young talented guys, plus adding some veteran experience in the free agency, sets the Mavericks up for a win/win scenario. They can finally begin the post-Dirk era process and the future of the organization in a promising direction.

Wherever they land in the NBA Lottery tonight, the light is shining bright in Dallas for once.
