The Dallas Mavericks had an up-and-down season, starting the year off on a fervid pace offensively, making a semi-blockbuster trade to acquire Rajon Rondo, struggling to incorporate him, and eventually falling in the first round of the NBA Playoffs to the Houston Rockets in five games.

Overall it’s fair to say the season was a disappointment. Dallas made moves to compete but it just didn’t happen.

But there was still a lot to like. We at The Smoking Cuban are counting down the 10 most memorable Maverick moments. Here’s #3 on the list.

3rd Most Memorable Mavericks Moment of 2014-15

Mavericks Run With the Bulls, Win in 2OT Thriller

December 2nd’s matchup with the Chicago Bulls was about as wild as an early December game gets in the NBA.

And it took a little something out of everyone for the Mavericks to get the 132-129 win on the road. Dirk Nowitzki finished three rebounds shy of a triple double in 42 minutes. Chandler Parsons scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds of his own. Devin Harris hit all six of his three-point attempts and recorded 8 assists, and Monta Ellis came up big in the clutch on his way to 38 points.

Even Chicago’s Kirk Hinrich chipped in for the Mavs. With the Bulls up 3 with only seconds remaining, Hinrich fouled Ellis in the act of shooting a borderline desperation three-pointer. Ellis knocked down the trio of free throws, sending the game into overtime.

Things got even more wild at the end of the first overtime period. This time it was Dallas holding a three-point advantage in the game’s waning moments. That is, until this happened.

That’s right, Derrick Rose banked in a floater from beyond the arc to give the sold out United Center another five minutes of basketball.

But the Mavericks didn’t let the miraculous shot ruin their evening. Ellis hit a deep three-pointer to put the Mavericks up after Joakim Noah slammed home a one-handed dunk with a minute remaining, and when Derrick Rose’s final shot attempt came up short the Mavericks had the win and their 3rd most memorable moment of the season. Here are the full highlights.
