Never a Dull Cuban!

It’s easy to write about the latest games and the losses which the Mavericks have been suffering of late. When a team is losing the journalists, bloggers, and analysts seem to talk more about the team than when it was winning. Since the rest of them are going on and on about the losing streak and what is wrong with the team I want to focus on something much more entertaining.

Mark Cuban.

I knew that eventually this guy would do something that would be hilarious and entertaining during the season and he did just that Monday night by appearing on the World Wrestling Entertainment program RAW.

Entertaining Cuban definitely was. When I heard about his appearance I thought,” Cool, maybe John Cena or someone will body slam him!” It looked that the Cuban butt kicking would come early as the billionaire jumped rail at ringside to keep Sheamus from interfering in the Cena/ Carlito match. For some reason the 270 pound muscle bound professional wrestler actually backed down from Cuban; must have been afraid of his massive checkbook.

Little did I know, but this was not the first time for Cuban and the wrestling arena! Apparently he got in a bit of an altercation in 2003 at the Survivor Series (the producers were kind enough to show a clip of the Mavericks owner getting a beat down from Randy Orton and Eric Bischoff). Orton and Cuban got into a little hissing match as they both insulted each other’s referees (this coming on the heels of the Donaghy interview- hey, wouldn’t it be great if that guy appeared in a wrestling match?!) Right when it appeared as if Mark Cuban would have to channel his best Ron Artest imitation in a match, the billionaire entrepreneur walked away and said maybe later, after the Mavericks win the title; must be because he can’t sign Dirk’s check if he is hurt.

The stage was set for Cuban to lay the smack down on someone later in the show when he was set to guest referee a match between Randy Orton and Kofi Kingston. Alas the only thing Cuban beat was the mat as he helped Kofi beat Orton with a rather fast three count.

As the show continued I began to despair. I was watching my first professional wrestling show since The Rock became a movie star. It was mildly entertaining, but I was not getting what I came for. I wanted to see Cuban throw down with someone, one of the women, commentators, anybody!

As the final match came near my hopes got higher as I saw Cuban look as if he was preparing to interview both Cena and Sheamus in the ring. The stage was set, the stupid questions were being asked…come on, come on…somebody…as the interview grew ugly I knew the time was near. Sure enough, Cuban thought he could step between two massive guys looking to fight.

Sheamus goes nuts and knocks Cuban down. Chaos ensues, Cena gets knocked silly, and we find Sheamus facing off with the Mavericks owner. I got to give Cuban credit; I almost believed that he thought he could win. That is until he was kneed to the ground, lifted overhead, and slammed through a table. Sheamus retreated once he saw the Mavericks in attendance approaching.

If I was Cuban I would fine all his players that sat around watching him get his butt kicked. His millions should have garnered him at least a little protection!
