The Dallas Mavericks have just over 48 hours until the start of the regular season, and some things within the team still aren't sorted out.

Dallas still doesn't have the starting lineup finalized, and until today, Dallas' first-round pick still hadn't been extended a contract.

The Mavericks took it down to the wire, but on Monday afternoon they got the deal done ahead of the 5 p.m. CT deadline.

Report: Mavericks extend potential rising star on three-year deal

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Green and the Mavericks agreed on a three-year, $41 million extension to keep him in Dallas for the next four years. Green had one more year on his rookie deal, and now they have him through the end of the 2026-27 season.

Green wanted to be in Dallas long term, and the Mavericks fulfilled his wish.

Green put on a show in Dallas' final preseason game on Friday night and showed exactly why Dallas needed to extend him. He displayed confidence, elite three-point shooting, and was attacking the rim much more than he has in the past.

Green's game rests on his confidence, and when he is confident, he plays at an extremely high level. He had the best season of his career last season as he shot over 40 percent from downtown and averaged 9.1 points per game.

Green is just scratching the surface as a player, and he is a great piece for the future to have at the center of Dallas' core. Alongside Grant Williams, Luka Doncic, and Kyrie Irving, Green will be someone who brings great energy and is a lethal 3-point option.

If Green's shooting and confidence continue to progress, the league could be in trouble. His relentless work ethic and team-first attitude are cherished in Dallas, and fans will now get to watch him next to Doncic and Irving for years to come.
