The Dallas Mavericks have made plenty of big moves this summer, such as re-signing Kyrie Irving and acquiring Grant Williams through a sign and trade, but one potential move has flown below the radar.

Dallas is eligible to give shooting guard Josh Green a contract extension this summer.

Green is a crucial piece into what the Mavericks do, and he is a great role player next to Luka Doncic.

Talented Mavericks guard wants to be in Dallas long term

Last season for the Mavs, Green averaged 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.7 steals per game. He has improved every season that he has been in the NBA, and the biggest improvement came after Dallas' 2022 Western Conference Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Green was not a big part of the rotation during that playoff run as he only averaged 7.6 minutes per game and only attempted 1.8 field goals per game. He shot 28.6 percent from the field, and the Utah Jazz often dared him to shoot in the first round.

Green didn't look confident at all in those playoffs but responded the following season by being a crucial role player for the Mavs. He shot a career-high 40.2 percent from three last season, played 25.7 minutes per game, and started in 21 games.

Green spoke to ESPN recently, and although he said he hasn't thought much about an extension, it appears he wants his longtime home to be in Dallas.

"I hope it happens. I want to be in Dallas. I love Dallas. I love the fanbase, love the guys. To think I could be in Dallas long-term would be amazing."

Green is extremely important to what the Mavs do, and an extension allows Dallas to avoid him going to restricted free agency next summer. He has become one of Dallas' most valuable trade assets, and Dallas should extend him as his game is still on the rise.
