The injury bug haunted the Dallas Mavericks down the stretch last season.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving only got to play 16 games together, and Dallas ended up missing the playoffs.

Having both star players injured down the stretch was not ideal for Dallas, and fans could undergo something similar to start the season after a recent injury to Irving.

Should Mavericks fans be concerned about Kyrie Irving's groin injury?

Irving played in Dallas' first preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves but missed the next two games due to groin soreness.

Groin injuries are no joke, as any type of cutting and activity just flares the injury back up. Irving and Dallas will need to be careful with his recovery plan, as rushing him back will only present more problems.

Mavs head coach Jason Kidd gave an update on Irving's injury after practice on Monday, explaining why he didn't play Tuesday.

"The soreness is still growing," Kidd said. "He did some stuff today, but he will not participate tomorrow."

The fact that Kidd said, "the soreness is still growing" is a bit concerning, but this injury seems minor from what we know right now. This injury will be something to monitor though, as the Mavs tip off the regular season in just over two weeks on October 25 against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Mavs will need Irving at 100 percent to start the season, as he is key to their success, and hopefully, Doncic is injury-free as well. Doncic only played five minutes in Dallas' loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday due to a calf injury, but both stars should be ready to go once the regular season rolls around.
