New eligible Dallas Mavericks trade target: 3. Jerami Grant
Grant is out for the next six weeks in a thumb injury, but he should be back on the floor before the Feb. 10 trade deadline. The 6’8 forward is scoring 20 points per game for the second straight year, and he is a versatile defender that is no stranger to playoff basketball from his time in Denver and Oklahoma City.
Grant still has one year left on his contract, and he is eligible for a four-year $112 million deal in the 2022 offseason. Any team that trades for Grant would have to be willing to pay him that extension, according to Shams Charania.
The Mavs would love to add Grant. He could go out and create offense while improving the team’s defense. Head coach Jason Kidd wants Dallas to up their D. Adding a 6’8 forward that can guard multiple positions would be a massive upgrade.
The Pistons are going to ask for a hefty return for Jerami Grant, and the Dallas Mavericks may not be able to meet their price, but the 27-year-old forward would be a perfect fit. Trading for him and locking him up would put Dallas into the luxury tax but secures them five seasons of a versatile forward that complements superstar Luka Doncic.
Expect the market to be robust for Grant ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline. His is a name to watch as trade season heats up.
