New eligible Dallas Mavericks trade target: 4. Dennis Schroder
Schroder was the odd man out in free agency last year, and he had to settle for a one-year deal worth $5.9 million with the Celtics. The 28-year-old is in his prime and will be looking for a massive payday in the 2022 offseason. Boston is already paying the luxury tax and will likely shop Schroder because re-signing him adds a massive amount to their bill.
Schroder is averaging 17.1 points, 4.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.9 steals in 33.1 minutes per game so far this season. The 6’3 guard is comfortable starting or coming off the bench as he provides instant offense.
The Mavs desperately need another ball-handler and playmaker. Superstar Luka Doncic is one of the best creators in the league, but Dallas has to rely heavily on him to keep their offense rolling. Adding another player that can go out and get buckets would boost a unit that currently ranks 17th in the league.
Making a deal to acquire Dennis Schroder is unlikely. The Dallas Mavericks had a chance to sign him in the offseason and opted against it. His trade market will be fascinating to watch after he failed to land the contract he desired in free agency last summer. Will his early-season play with the Celtics change the market? If not, what team is willing to pay him this summer? Stay tuned to find out.
