New eligible Dallas Mavericks trade target: 5. Cam Reddish
Multiple teams are in on Reddish, according to Shams Charania (subscription required). The Hawks want to avoid the luxury tax, which means trading away some talent as they look to build around Trae Young. Charania notes that Atlanta wants a first-round pick in exchange for Reddish.
The 22-year-old is averaging 11.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 22.5 minutes per game this season. The 6’8 forward continues to improve and could be a valuable rotation piece in the NBA for the next 15 years. Do not be surprised to see him blossom when given a larger opportunity too.
The Mavs need to add more talent. Adding a 6’8 that can play multiple positions and score should be intriguing. Reddish has a developing jump shot that could take another step forward in Dallas working with shooting coach Peter Patton. Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, and others have made massive strides with their jumpers while playing for the Mavericks.
Cam Reddish and Luka Doncic are the same age. Trading for the Hawks wing would give Dallas a young player dripping with talent and potential that just needs time on the court to improve. Acquiring Reddish is a short and long-term play for the Dallas Mavericks that should be explored before the Feb. 10 trade deadline.
