Tim Hardaway Jr. injury puts pressure on Dallas Mavericks to make trade
The Mavs need scoring punch, shot creation, and ball-handling. Tim Hardaway Jr. missing an extended stretch makes those issues even bigger. Dallas has five players scoring double-figures per game this season, and the team will miss THJ’s 14.3 points each night. They do not have someone that can step in and create shots for themselves.
The Mavericks need another wing with Hardaway Jr. out. Ideally, they acquire a player that can handle the ball, create shots, score, space the floor, and play above-average perimeter defense. Dallas may not have the assets to pull off that move, but THJ’s injury puts pressure on first-year general manager Nico Harrison to make a trade before the Feb. 10 deadline.
Dallas has been rumored to be interested in Marcus Smart and in on the Jerami Grant sweepstakes. Trading for one of those players could solve their problems. The Mavericks have a cap crunch to deal with in the offseason, which could further complicate their trade pursuits.
The Dallas Mavericks will feel the effects of Tim Hardaway Jr. breaking his foot for the remainder of the season. Hopefully, the 6’5 wing makes a speedy recovery and is back on the floor in the postseason. Keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
