Thing to watch during Dallas Mavericks training camp: 1. How is KP playing?

It is no secret that the Mavs need more production than they received in the playoffs from Kristaps Porzingis if they are going to be serious title contenders. The Unicorn struggled mightily on the defensive end last season after returning from offseason meniscus surgery. How much did the shortened break and lack of time to get healthy play into his subpar production? Dallas needs him to protect the rim and hold his own on the defensive end to take another step forward.

Will coach Kidd invigorate the Unicorn on the offensive end of the floor too? He averaged over 20 points per game during the last regular season on the highest shooting efficiency of his career, but KP was not always locked in. Can the Hall of Fame point guard change that?

Dallas needs All-Star KP if they are going to be serious title contenders this year, but can the 26-year-old rise back up to that level? He was playing the best basketball of his career inside the bubble, which happened just 13 months ago. The condensed season wreaked havoc on a lot of players, and it will be interesting to see which version of Kristaps Porzingis shows up to training camp.
