Thing to watch during Dallas Mavericks training camp: 4. Are young players improving?

The Mavs did not have a selection in the 2021 NBA Draft, but they picked Josh Green and Tyrell Terry in 2020. Neither played significant minutes during their first professional season, and both have plenty to prove at the NBA level heading into year two. Terry got to play in his first summer league this offseason but was injured after just two games. Green sat out after winning a bronze medal with the Australian National Team at the Olympics, but he played a limited role off the bench for the Boomers in Tokyo.

The Mavs added a third young piece when they traded Josh Richardson to the Boston Celtics this offseason for Moses Brown and a trade exception. The 21-year-old big man had multiple monster performances for the Thunder last season but is still a raw and developing talent.

Jason Kidd talked about his desire to develop players in Dallas during his introductory press conference and specifically mentioned Josh Green. Will the 20-year-old be ready for a nightly role this season? Will Moses Brown’s work with Tyson Chandler help him crack the rotation? Can Tyrell Terry work his way into playing time this season?

The Dallas Mavericks want to win, so these young players may fall to the fringes of the rotation during the regular season, but they will get plenty of opportunities during training camp. Fans should be watching their development closely over the next three weeks.
