Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks preseason game vs. Clippers: 4. Powell

Dwight Powell made his preseason debut on Oct. 8 after being held out in the opener to rest, and he quickly made an impact. DP had five first quarters points on his way to scoring 14 in his 16 minutes of action. He chipped in with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal on five of six from the field as he made all three of his free throws.

Powell suffered a torn Achilles in Jan. 2020, and he struggled last season returning from that injury. He played on opening night, but never looked all the way back until late in the season. DP appears to be healthy and ready for a career year in the 2021-2022 campaign.

It was positive to see Powell step into and knock down a wide-open 3-pointer in the first quarter. The Mavs plan on using him as the primary pick and roll partner with Luka Doncic, but DP needs to make those shots.

Dwight Powell also brought his energy and effort to the Dallas Mavericks starting unit, which the team will need during the 82-game regular season. Powell being healthy and getting up for lobs is a massive win. His health is something to watch as the preseason progresses.
