Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks preseason game vs. Clippers: 5. Ntilikina
The Mavs signed Frank Ntilikina about a week before training camp began, but the 23-year-old guard earned a fully guaranteed first season in his two-year contract. The 6’4 guard dealt with an illness that kept him out of the team’s open practice, and he was rested during the preseason opener, so Oct. 8 was the first chance to see him play for the Mavericks.
Ntilikina did not enter the game until the second half, but he wasted little time in making a first impression on MFFL’s. See his beautiful Euro step below.
The French Prince is known for his stout perimeter defense, and he figures to be a situational player off the Mavs bench this season. It was fantastic to see Ntilikina attacking the rim against the Clippers as he finished with six points, one rebound, one steal, and one block in 16 minutes of action. He did pick up five fouls, though.
It is easy to forget that Frank Ntilikina is only 23 years old. Yes, he struggled in his first four NBA seasons with the New York Knicks, but the best basketball of his career is still ahead for the French Prince. Can the Dallas Mavericks help him reach his potential? It is something to watch this season.
