Dallas Mavericks surprising stats so far: 2. Pace

The Mavs were playing faster during the preseason as they attempted to look ahead for passes that created easy scoring opportunities.

Dallas controlled the ball and played well in the half court under Rick Carlisle. The Mavericks consistently ranked in the bottom half of the league in pace during his tenure. It seemed like Kidd was going to speed things up some this season.

After two games, the Mavericks are 29th in pace at 98.5 per game. They are actually playing slightly faster than last season where Dallas came in at 97.94 and 26th in the NBA.

The Mavs have tried to pass ahead for easy scores a few times in each game, but their success has been limited so far. They found their footing by letting Luka Doncic bring the ball up and create in the half-court.

It will be interesting to see if Coach Kidd attempts to quicken the pace as the season progresses. The Dallas Mavericks do not have a team built to run up and down the floor, so they would need to increase the tempo by picking their spots to create quick and efficient scores. It is something to watch moving forward.
