Dallas Mavericks stud in home opening win over Rockets: 2. Jalen Brunson
The Mavs need someone other than Luka Doncic that can consistently create shots. Fans saw the weakness on display against the LA Clippers in the 2021 playoffs, and the team did nothing to address the issue in the offseason. They had faith that they had that player on their roster.
Jalen Brunson used the chatter as motivation all offseason, and that hard work paid off in the home opener. The 25-year-old has played a lot next to Luka this season, but the Mavs need him even more after Kristaps Porzingis was ruled out with a back injury.
Brunson played the final 17 minutes against the Houston Rockets as he helped the team’s offense close out Houston. The 25-year-old point guard finished with 11 points, four rebounds, one steal, and a career-high-tying 11 assists in 27 minutes of action. Brunson had just two turnovers and helped Dallas outscore Houston by nine during his time on the floor.
Jalen Brunson is the team’s sixth man, and he is going to play a key role all season. The Dallas Mavericks need him making plays and creating shots if they are going to keep climbing the standings this year. So far, it looks like JB has taken another step forward.
