Dallas Mavericks are struggling to hit shots with Luka Doncic on the floor

The Mavs have nearly identical field goal percentages with Luka on or off the floor, but Dallas is making just 31.0 percent of their threes with Doncic and 34.6 percent without him.

Their struggles remain on open shots. The Mavericks have attempted 177 3-pointers classified as open by NBA Stats and have connected on just 26.6 percent of them. That percentage ranks 27th in the league. Dallas has hit 38.6 percent of their 202 wide-open triples, which is the ninth-best percentage in the league.

The 22-year-old superstar is one of the best players in the NBA at creating open shots, but they have not been falling in the early going. Reggie Bullock is shooting 32.7 percent from 3-point range after 11 games. Kristaps Porzingis, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Luka are all under 29 percent, and Sterling Brown has made just four of his 23 triples.

Those numbers won’t continue. 3-point across the NBA is down with a plethora of factors having an impact, including the rule changes, new ball, and fans being back in the arenas. Shooting will improve across the league, and the Dallas Mavericks could take one of the biggest jumps.
