Should the Dallas Mavericks start Jalen Brunson?
When Kristaps Porzingis returns, the Mavs have plenty of offense on the floor to start games, so it would not be surprising to see them open up with a more defensive lineup before shifting towards offense with Brunson on the floor down the stretch.
The question should not be about JB starting, but how many minutes is he playing. Brunson is one of the Mavericks' most important players this season. He appears to be taking another step forward in his fourth NBA season, and the 6’1 guard deserves to play 30-plus minutes per game.
It is easier to give him that playing time if he starts, but coach Kidd could work the substitution patterns to give him that run off the bench.
The Dallas Mavericks should start Jalen Brunson and give him 30-plus minutes per game. His ball-handling and playmaking ability are a necessary complement to Luka Doncic. JB proved against the Spurs that he can win the team a game down the stretch and having that threat on the floor next to Luka should make the Mavs a feared offensive team again.
Fans should expect to see more of Brunson going forward. Can he sustain his hot start? Will he keep getting better? Does Jason Kidd move him into the starting five permanently? Stay tuned to find out.
