Rumors: Knicks want Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson
Brunson will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season after the Mavericks made a mistake in structuring his rookie deal. Dallas’s financial flexibility concerns have teams lining up to try to pry JB away, and the New York Knicks are at the front of the line after Marc Berman reported New York wants him "bad".
Knicks president Leon Rose is a former sports agent, who had Rick Brunson, Jalen’s father as a client. Rose has known Brunson since his youth and has long been a fan of his game. This is far from the first time the Knicks have been rumored to be interested in acquiring Jalen Brunson, but they have been unable to pull it off so far.
New York just traded for Cam Reddish, and they want to jump the free agency line and acquire Brunson before the Feb. 10 deadline, but will they make it happen?
It appears unlikely the Dallas Mavericks will deal JB during his fourth-year breakout, but if he tells them he does not plan to sign a long-term deal in the offseason, they could have no choice but to explore his market.
