Dallas Mavericks who look ready for regular season: 4. Jalen Brunson

Brunson heard the talk of the Mavs needing a secondary creator and used it as motivation. The 25-year-old did not make a ton of headlines this preseason, but he showed off his improvements.

JB was rested in the team’s second preseason game but put on a show in the other three. He led the Mavericks in scoring and took over as the starting point guard in the victory in Milwaukee with Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Tim Hardaway Jr. all sitting out. The 25-year-old averaged 13.3 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 20.5 minutes per game this preseason.

Fans know that Brunson is a tough shot maker, but he has more freedom in new head coach Jason Kidd’s system. JB is attacking the rim and finding just enough space to hit shots.

Kidd also played Luka and Brunson on the court together for stretch this preseason, and it will be interesting to see how much that carries over to the regular season. Putting JB on the floor with Doncic more gets the ball out of the Mavericks superstar’s hands a bit and will help keep him fresh late in games.

Jalen Brunson is ready for the regular season. Do not be surprised to see a career year that puts the 25-year-old in the running for Sixth Man of the Year.
