Play from Dallas Mavericks win over Nuggets that stood out: 1. Luka posts the MVP
Luka Doncic had an off night by his standards. The Denver Nuggets matched up Aaron Gordon on him and were throwing double teams at him early and often on Monday night. Still, Doncic missed a few easy ones. Even on an off night, he finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, 11 assists, two steals, and one block, but Luka shot just nine of 23 from the field.
He did come alive in the second half. Coach Kidd kept him in for the entire third quarter as the Mavericks scored 30 points and won the 12 minutes by five. Doncic then had seven points of his own in the fourth to push Dallas over the line. He even posted up reigning MVP Nikola Jokic and hit him with Dirk Nowitzki’s signature move in the final minutes.
Luka never lacks confidence, and he is quickly becoming one of the best mid-range scorers in the league.
The connection between Doncic and KP was strong on Monday night as well. They were playing together and working off each other well. The Mavericks are difficult to contain when their star duo is feeling it. Hopefully, Luka’s ankle injury is not serious, and he can play on Wednesday night.
The Dallas Mavericks are just starting to play their best basketball. It was a slow beginning under a new head coach, and the team is still 9-4. They are dangerous, and fans should be excited because things are only improving from here.
