Pass or pursue on Dallas Mavericks trade idea: 1. Swap with Kings
ESPN got in on the hypothetical deals (subscription required) by producing five that would alter the league, and they had Dallas re-acquiring Harrison Barnes. Here is a look at the trade.
This deal is complicated for Dallas. Trading Tim Hardaway Jr. for Barnes gives them more size, scoring, and defense, but the Mavericks also deal away their top perimeter defender in Dorian Finney-Smith. Doe-Doe is not a stopper, but he has the versatility to guard multiple positions.
Bagley has provided a lot of empty calories to this point in his career. His defense has been poor, and the 22-year-old struggles to do much other than score and grab rebounds. Dallas could be giving up two capable rotation players and getting back one for their playoff rotation, which is a dangerous gamble on a team not stacked with depth.
Harrison Barnes is dealing with a foot injury that has caused him to miss four straight games. The Mavericks would have to know he is fully healthy before acquiring him. Let us not forget Dallas traded him to Sacramento in a virtual salary dump. Giving up THJ and Doe-Doe to re-acquire HB seems like a steep price to pay.
