Pass or pursue on Dallas Mavericks trade idea: 3. Grab Gordon and House

The Rockets have just five wins and are in the midst of a total rebuild. Five-time All-Star John Wall is not suiting up, despite being healthy, because Houston wants to give minutes to young players. They are likely to put multiple veterans on the block before the deadline, and Eric Gordon is a proven scorer that should draw some interest.

Bleacher Report proposed this deal that would send him to Dallas.

Gordon is not the perfect fit, but he would improve the Mavericks' offense. He can create shots for himself and knock down jumpers. Dallas needs an option that can score off the bounce, and Gordon’s ability to space the floor is a plus when he is playing next to Luka Doncic.

Would the Mavs be willing to part with a first-round pick to acquire Eric Gordon and Danuel House? That is a hefty price to pay for a 32-year-old veteran with a lengthy injury history and a wing that has seen his minute’s decrease in three straight seasons. This deal would get them off Dwight Powell’s contract for next season, but is that enough?

Verdict: Pass

The Dallas Mavericks should not go after Eric Gordon if the cost is a first-round pick. If the Rockets are willing to accept less, Dallas should have interest. Expect Nico Harrison to be calling, but it is unlikely the two sides get a deal done.
