Change to Dallas Mavericks offense under Jason Kidd: 2. Faster
Dallas is going to increase the tempo under Kidd. They were in the bottom half of the league in pace in their first three seasons with Luka, but are ninth so far this preseason in a small sample. Fans have seen them working the ball up the floor faster in hopes of creating an easy bucket.
Luka Doncic is getting the ball and looking ahead for his teammates. Tim Hardaway Jr. converted a layup off a Clippers miss in the team’s second preseason game.
It does not happen off every miss, and the Mavs do not always convert with an easy score. They hit that pass ahead to THJ on a few occasions where he has held the ball before passing back to Luka and resetting the offense.
The increased pace has also created a few easy ones for Kristaps Porzingis and forced the defense into mismatches. See him score off one versus the Clippers below.
The Dallas Mavericks are not going to lead the league in pace under head coach Jason Kidd, but they are going to look to push in transition and have not been slowing things down in the halfcourt. They have taken multiple shots within the first ten seconds of the shot clock, which was a rarity under coach Carlisle. It will be interesting to see how much faster they play during the regular season.
