Dallas Mavericks need from Kristaps Porzingis: 2. Scoring
The Mavs were knocked out by the LA Clippers in the first round of the playoffs in 2021 as KP only averaged 13.1 points per game. He shot eight of 27 from 3-point range over the seven games after being relegated to spot-up shooting duties as he was being guarded primarily by Kawhi Leonard.
Porzingis has averaged over 20 points per game during each of his two seasons in Dallas, and the Mavericks need him to be their second scorer. Luka Doncic is one of the best playmakers in the league, but the roster is limited behind him. Having a 7’3 big man that can drop 20 a night is a must if the Mavs are going to make a run in the postseason.
It was an extremely slow offensive start for the Unicorn as he is shooting just 30.2 percent from the field and 23.5 percent on his threes in an extremely small sample. How quickly can KP find his jumper and get back to scoring 20 points per game?
Can Kristaps Porzingis be the team’s number two scorer in the postseason? It won’t be easy because of his lack of shot creation, but coach Kidd is likely to have a few tricks in his bag to get KP open that fans will see as the postseason draws closer.
