Team that will pursue Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson in free agency: 3. Pacers

The Indiana Pacers made the first move in remaking their roster when they shipped Domantas Sabonis to Sacramento for Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield. Coach Rick Carlisle is one of the best offensive minds in the league and his five-out system produced one of the best offensive ratings of all-time with the Mavs in 2020.

The Pacers could create cap space this summer if they renounce the cap holds on Ricky Rubio, TJ Warren, Jalen Smith, and Lance Stephenson. Malcolm Brogdon is among the team’s most likely offseason trade candidates as they search for the right pieces to build around Haliburton. If they decide to deal Brogdon for a wing, they will be searching for Haliburton’s backcourt partner. Could that open a door for a Brunson and Carlisle reunion in Indiana?

Brunson and Haliburton would be a dynamic backcourt duo because both can run the offense, make plays, and space the floor. Coach Carlisle could draw up tons of different actions to create open shots. JB is a crafty finisher around the rim that is one of the most efficient scorers in the backcourt.

Will the Pacers be willing to meet JB’s asking price in free agency? Rick Carlisle played a significant part in the Dallas Mavericks drafting Jalen Brunson, and he would certainly be interested in a reunion in Indiana.
