Grade for Dallas Mavericks offense after 20 games

In many ways, the Mavs offense goes as Luka Doncic goes. The expectation was they would maintain being a top-ten unit, but fans should have expected a slow start adjusting to new head coach Jason Kidd’s system and scheme.

After 20 games, Dallas sits 15th in offensive rating at 108.6. They are 19th in true shooting percentage and 21st in assist percentage. They are league average or slightly below in every offense category. Much of their offensive woes start with their poor shot-making, but other factors are in play.

The team’s spacing is improving, but there were rough moments early in the season. They have also struggled to know when to cut or look for a post-up as the added freedom under coach Kidd has created a few head-scratching moments.

Dallas Mavericks offensive grade after 20 games: C-minus

The Mavs are dead on average and performing below expectations. Fans could argue this grade should be worse, but it is only 20 games, and Dallas has plenty of time to climb. Expecting a bit of a slow start lead me to handing out a just below average grade, but Luka and the Mavericks need to get their offense rolling as soon as possible.
