Dallas Mavericks player who might not finish season with team: 5. Josh Green
If the Mavs can pull off a blockbuster deal, it will feature Green heading out of Dallas. The organization cannot currently trade their first-round pick until 2027 because of the protections they put in the Kristaps Porzingis deal with the New York Knicks. The route to acquire a star is trading young talent and draft choices, so Dallas would need to add Green.
The 20-year-old played just 445 total minutes as a rookie, but he showed flashes when given time. Green helped Australia win an Olympic bronze medal this summer, despite playing a limited on-court role. The 6’5 wing is packed with potential, but his chances to showcase it have been limited so far.
New head coach Jason Kidd has talked about his excitement to have the opportunity to work with and help develop Green. That alone could keep the 20-year-old on the Mavericks roster.
It will be difficult for Dallas to pull off a blockbuster trade. They are likely limited to making deals on the margins and sticking with Josh Green. He profiled as a strong defensive prospect coming out of college and nothing has happened to change that. Expect the Dallas Mavericks to keep him unless the right deal comes along.
