Dallas Mavericks defensive improvement: 2. Energy

Fans have seen the Mavs increase their energy on the defensive end of the floor. Head coach Jason Kidd has them playing a more aggressive style that has the players locked in.

Following Wednesday’s blowout preseason win over the Charlotte Hornets, Kristaps Porzingis had this to say about the Mavericks' defense.

"Our defense has taken a step forward. One thing is the schemes and how we guard things, but the other one is the intensity. That’s something we are going to keep doing at a high level if we want to be good."

KP also noted that everyone staying involved in the offense is helping increase the effort level on defense.

Porzingis struggled on the defensive end of the floor last season after returning from offseason meniscus surgery. His lateral mobility was limited, and he struggled to protect the rim after being one of the league’s best at doing so in the 2019-2020 season. KP is back and moving better than ever this preseason. He made this impressive block in Wednesday’s preseason game against the Hornets.

The Dallas Mavericks want to be better on the defensive end of the floor this season, and fans can see it in their energy level. It starts with the team’s two star players. Luka Doncic and KP are flying around and trying to make plays on the defensive end of the floor, and the same goes for everyone else on the roster.
