The Dallas Mavericks are looking to improve their roster ahead of the Feb. 10 trade deadline. They have been linked to multiple players and want to move closer to title contention as they build around superstar Luka Doncic.

A blockbuster went down on Tuesday morning as the Portland Trail Blazers traded CJ McCollum to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Mavs were interested in McCollum, but could not match the Pelicans package.

Portland sent Larry Nance Jr., Tony Snell, and McCollum to New Orleans for Josh Hart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Tomas Satoransky, Didi Louzada, a protected 2022 first-round pick, and two second-round draft picks. It was a massive deal that had impacts all over the NBA, and here is a look from the Mavs’ perspective.

The Pelicans added three rotation pieces in the deal and boosted their playoff chances. They currently sit tenth in the Western Conference and are eight games back of sixth place and avoiding the play-in tournament. The Mavericks face the Pels in New Orleans on Feb. 17 in what should be an exciting contest just before the All-Star break.

Portland is only a half-game back of New Orleans for tenth, but they appear to have no plans of contending this season. The Mavericks host the Blazers on April 8 in the second to last game of the regular season.

The CJ McCollum trade has much larger impacts on the Dallas Mavericks than just the on-court matchups this season, and here is a look at everything fans need to know.
